Beaux-Arts Course: French Painting and Drawing Education

In the Beaux-Arts Atelier of Painting and Drawing, led by academic painter Ildar Yussoupov, we delve into the traditional methods that shaped French and global art during the 19th and 20th centuries. Practical lessons are complemented with discussions on various styles such as Realism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism, and Abstraction. Each season focuses on specific tasks aligned with painting goals.

• Realism: We explore tonal values.
• Impressionism: Emphasis on color mixing and plein-air techniques.
• Fauvism and Expressionism: Discussions on vivid color use.
• Cubism: Exploration of contrast.
• Abstract Art: Lessons in composition and abstraction.

We paint still lifes, portraits, and figures both in the studio and en plein air. While our setting evokes the atmosphere of historic Montmartre and Montparnasse ateliers, our primary focus is on each student's interests. You are not obliged to study all styles; instead, you can specialize in your preferred season or style. Whether you identify with Impressionism or another movement, you have the freedom to deepen your knowledge accordingly.

Art supplies for the first class are provided free of charge - papers and sheets are available for free in the studio for every session, and participants receive drawing materials during the first class. For subsequent classes, participants should acquire their own drawing materials (charcoal, pastels, etc.) and painting supplies (tempera, acrylic or oil paints, brushes, media, palette) in consultation with the instructor during the course.
